The Case of Tissue Expander in Skin Graft Procedure

Abstract

|
Until now so many reconstructive methods were developed for the soft tissue defect. The skin graft is the most popular method for soft tissue reconstruction. But recently the flap surgery is getting a solid position for soft tissue reconstruction. However the flap surgery has a disadvantage in the aspect of donor site and a operation time. For the flap surgery, the surrounding skin of defect site has to be healthy and perfect. In the case of the foot crushing injury, the surrounding tissue of the defect site is mostly not perfect for the flap surgery and tissue expansion. In such case the skin graft is become a powerful alternative. Groin is a good donor site for the full thickness skin graft. In harvesting a large amount of the full thickness groin skin, the prominent scar was inevitably remained. Tissue expansion technique is a good choice for harvesting a large amount of the full thickness skin. As a result, the donor site morbidity such as a prominent scar and scar widening was not remained. (J Korean Wound Management Soc 2009;5:47-49)
